Hyaluronidase (Human Recombinant) Injection, 150 USP Units/mL, 1 mL Single-Dose Vial (4/Box), Hylenex® — Halozyme
| Active ingredients | Hyaluronidase (human recombinant) 150 USP units/mL |
| Dosage form | Sterile injectable solution, preservative-free |
| Route | Subcutaneous, intramuscular, intraocular, peribulbar, or retrobulbar injection (not for intravenous use) |
| Size | 1 mL single-dose vial, 4 vials per box |
| Manufacturer | Halozyme |
Indications and Usage
An adjuvant indicated to increase the dispersion and absorption of other injected drugs — including for ophthalmic use in peribulbar and retrobulbar block — as well as to achieve subcutaneous hydration and to improve resorption of contrast media in subcutaneous urography.
Dosage and Administration
To enhance dispersion and absorption of injected drugs, inject 50 to 300 units (most typically 150 units) prior to drug administration, or add the same amount directly to the injection solution. Not for intravenous use, as the enzyme is rapidly inactivated.
Warnings and Precautions
- Do not inject into or around an infected or acutely inflamed area, due to risk of spreading localized infection
- Not for topical use; should not be applied directly to the cornea
- Incompatible with furosemide, benzodiazepines, and phenytoin; should not be used to enhance dispersion of dopamine or alpha agonists
- When combined with local anesthetics, hastens onset but shortens duration and may increase the incidence of systemic reactions
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to hyaluronidase or any excipient in the formulation.
Adverse Reactions
Most frequently reported reactions are mild local injection site effects such as erythema, swelling, and pain. Allergic reactions (urticaria, angioedema) and, rarely, anaphylactic-like reactions following retrobulbar block or intravenous injection have been reported.
Storage and Handling
Store unopened in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). Do not freeze. Discard unused portion.
