Indications and Usage

Corticosteroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions of the conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial infection exists.

Dosage and Administration

Instill two drops into the eye(s) every four hours. The initial prescription should not exceed 20 mL, with re-evaluation if no improvement occurs after two days.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Not for injection
  • Prolonged corticosteroid use may cause elevated intraocular pressure, glaucoma, optic nerve damage, cataracts, and corneal perforation
  • Corticosteroids may mask infection or promote secondary infection, especially fungal
  • Sulfonamides may cause rare fatal reactions including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and blood dyscrasias

Contraindications

Contraindicated in most viral corneal and conjunctival diseases (including herpes simplex and vaccinia), mycobacterial and fungal eye infections, and hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or corticosteroids.

Adverse Reactions

Elevation of intraocular pressure, glaucoma with optic nerve damage, posterior subcapsular cataract formation, delayed wound healing, and secondary ocular infection.

Storage and Handling

Store at 15°C to 25°C, protected from light and freezing. Do not use if the solution has darkened.

Supplied as a 5 mL solution in a plastic bottle with a controlled drop tip.
