Indications and Usage
Indicated for the treatment of superficial ocular infections involving the conjunctiva and/or cornea caused by susceptible organisms. Also indicated for prophylaxis of ophthalmia neonatorum due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia trachomatis.
Dosage and Administration
For acute infections, apply approximately 1 cm of ointment directly to the infected eye up to six times daily depending on the severity of the infection. For neonatal prophylaxis, apply a ribbon approximately 1 cm long to each lower conjunctival sac once shortly after birth.
Warnings and Precautions
- For topical ophthalmic use only; not for injection into the eye
- Prolonged or repeated use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
- Caution should be exercised when prescribing to nursing women
- Discontinue use if sensitivity or other untoward reactions occur
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to erythromycin.
Adverse Reactions
The most common adverse reactions are minor ocular irritation, redness, and hypersensitivity reactions.
Storage and Handling
Store at 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).

Supplied as a sterile ophthalmic ointment in a collapsible ophthalmic tube with a tapered tip, in a 3.5 g size.
