How to choose

Start with your lens type. A soft lens wants a soft, flexible tip. A rigid gas permeable lens wants a small suction plunger. A scleral lens wants a cup wide enough to hold it without pressing on the optic zone, and a vented cup releases suction more easily on removal. If you are unsure which group your lens falls into, the fitting notes from your eye care professional will say.

Quantities and care

Most DMV tools are sold in multi packs, five or ten to a box, which suits keeping one at home, one in a travel bag and a spare in a drawer. Rinse a tool after each use and let it air dry, and retire it when the tip stiffens, splits or stops holding its shape. A worn tip is harder to control, which is the opposite of what you bought it for.
