How to choose

The first fork is preservatives. Preserved bottles are the straightforward choice for occasional use. Preservative free formats, in vials or multi dose PF bottles, are what people move to when they are reaching for drops many times a day or have been told to avoid preservatives. Between those two PF options, vials give you a fresh seal each time and multi dose bottles produce less packaging.

The second fork is thickness. Watery drops leave vision clear straight away. Gels and ointments are heavier and can blur vision briefly, which is why they are usually chosen for bedtime. If you wear contact lenses, check that the drop is labeled for use with them, and ask your eye doctor which format fits your day.
