Comfortable for patients
The warmth and gentle massage feel relaxing, and many patients say their eyes feel better the same day.
In-office procedures · Thermoelectric lid therapy
MiBo Thermoflo, also called MiBoFlo, treats Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) without anything touching the inner lid. The clinician glides a heated probe over the closed eyelid with ultrasound gel, and a thermoelectric control keeps the pad at 108.5°F (roughly 42°C) for the whole treatment.
Why practices add it
A Peltier heat pump inside the unit warms a silver pad, which the clinician moves across the outside of the eyelid over a layer of ultrasound gel. Holding the heat steady is meant to soften thickened meibum so it can be expressed and rejoin the lipid layer of the tear film.
The warmth and gentle massage feel relaxing, and many patients say their eyes feel better the same day.
There are no single-use tips and no click or per-treatment charges. Staff simply clean the pad before the next patient.
The workflow is simple enough to hand to trained technicians, and it fits alongside the rest of a dry eye program.
Published studies spanning more than a decade report gains in symptoms, gland function, tear-film stability, surface health and quality of life.

Peltier technology keeps the pad at a constant therapeutic temperature, where a warm compress starts cooling within minutes.
Pads made of .925 silver carry the heat to the lid. They are interchangeable, can be sterilized and are cleaned between patients.
A layer of ultrasound gel links the warm pad to the lid and lets the clinician massage as the meibum softens.
On the IIx Dual, a handpiece that adjusts to the patient's PD treats both eyes together, and the heaters detach when only one eye needs treatment.
In the chair
MiBoFlo is performed by hand, so pressure, motion, timing and placement are adjusted to what the patient and clinician report.
Both lids can be treated at once, and a two-eye session usually takes about 20 minutes.
Heat delivered through the outside of the lid is meant to loosen thickened meibum, which is then expressed to help restore the lipid layer.
Because MGD is chronic and tends to progress, a series of treatments is recommended to help improve meibum quality and gland function and keep the tear film stable over time.

That is its purpose. The thermoelectric heat is meant to loosen thickened meibum, which makes expression easier and supports the tear film in MGD patients.
A warm compress loses heat quickly and rarely stays at a therapeutic temperature. MiBoFlo uses a Peltier heater to hold about 108°F (42°C) and delivers it through a .925 silver pad and ultrasound gel.
No. The meibomian glands sit inside the tarsal plate, and MiBoFlo produces enough heat to reach them through the lid. Temperature readings taken during treatment have confirmed therapeutic tissue temperatures.
Yes. The pads are interchangeable and can be sterilized, and a session covering both eyes usually takes about 20 minutes.
MGD is a chronic disease that tends to progress, not a single blockage. A series of heat treatments can help improve meibum quality and gland function and keep the tear film stable.
MiBo Thermoflo adds a heat treatment with no tips or per-use fees that a doctor or trained technician can complete in about 20 minutes.
