Quick answer

One portal, one ID, plenty of competition.

UnitedHealthcare's employer vision materials state that administrative services come from Spectera, Inc., United HealthCare Services, Inc. or their affiliates, and that members can choose private practices, online options and popular retailers. Providers sign in to spectera.com with a One Healthcare ID (OHID). Spectera also offers network providers free COPE-accredited continuing education courses.

Get help Online Help Center first, then Spectera Customer Service at 800-638-3120 for non-OHID questions
Continuing education Free COPE-accredited CE courses offered to network providers
Directory accuracy Keep your listing current; in Oklahoma, CMS and the state Department of Insurance run a directory pilot asking providers to verify their information
Member side myuhcvision.com gives members provider search, ID cards and benefit details

Two cards, two claims.

A UnitedHealthcare member may hold medical coverage, vision coverage or both.

Visit Which benefit it usually draws on
Routine exam and refraction The Spectera vision benefit
Glasses or contact lenses The vision benefit's materials allowance
Medical complaint such as dry eye or a red eye The patient's medical plan, which may or may not be UnitedHealthcare
Diabetic eye exam Typically the medical plan; confirm with the payer
Practice pearl

Ask every UnitedHealthcare patient for both cards. A member can carry UHC medical and a separate Spectera vision plan, or a vision plan with no UHC medical at all, and the card in hand decides which claim you can file.
